Profile AB, upper Torside Clough to Sykes Moor across Y-Lobe
The profile shows the topographic associations of the land cover types downslope across the Y-lobe at Sykes Moor
- Blanket peat is found on the plateau. It is exposed above 500m, due to an accidental fire in 1970.
- Gullies have cut down to the mineral soil where peat erosion is most severe, especially higher up.
- Bilberry and crowberry grow lower down at the moorland edge where the peat is thinner and drier.
- Heather grows on the lower slopes where peat is thin or absent.
