Aerial photograph of Sykes Moor

On these aerial images, the exposed peat shows up as a deep purple colour.

Again, exposed mineral soils show up a white colour, due to the large amount of light it reflects.

Gullies running down from the peat uplands can be seen as the white lines.

Heather moorland is the large lobe (dark green in colour).

The lighter green areas are cotton grass (Eriophurum) moors.
