This view was taken from the Pennine Way, near to where it crosses the A57 (grid reference: 4088, 3929).
It is a north easterly view towards Alport Moor, Upper North Grain and Over Wood Moss.
- The foreground of the photo shows cotton grass moorland, where Eriophorum spp. is dominant in the wetter, peaty pools. This species can be easily identified in early summer by its fluffy white seed heads.
- Heather (Calluna vulgaris ), are the clumpy, dark brown/ purple clusters. These heather clumps are often mixed with bilberry (a greener, wider leafed species) and crowberry (a narrower, browner leaved dwarf shrub).
- Juncus is the thick, grass like rush in the foreground of the photo.
