Mark in his natural habitat

I am a mathematician and computer scientist, interested in semigroup theory, tropical algebra and geometry, combinatorial and geometric group theory, formal languages and automata, and especially the interactions between these fields.

I am currently Chair of the UKRI/EPSRC Strategic Advisory Team (SAT) in Mathematical Sciences, in which capacity I'm always happy to hear views and concerns from the community, so please feel free to get in touch.

When I'm not doing maths, I'm a father (of three), husband, cyclist, rambler, fellwalker, pedestrian, footpath inspector, school governor, consumer, commuter, genealogist, and crossword enthusiast.
