Alastair grew up near Edinburgh before doing his Masters at The University of St Andrews. Continuing at St Andrews for a PhD with David O’Hagan looking at multivicinal fluorinated cyclohexanes. Alastair then carried out a 1 year EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, again with David O’Hagan. Then moving to Université Paris Sud for a postdoctoral position with Benoit Crousse and Sandrine Ongeri. Alastair then started work in reaction methodology with Michael Greaney in University of Manchester. He is currently a postdoctoral research associate with Igor Larrosa. His research interests include: C–H activation; fluorine and 19F NMR; Complex synthesis. Outside of research his interests are board games, video games, listening to and playing music, and baking.
