Kurt

Akash is from Haldia, West Bengal (India). He obtained his BSMS degree in Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati. For his master’s thesis project, he worked under the supervision of Prof. Nitin T. Patil at IISER Bhopal, where he investigated novel Au-catalysed alkene aryl-alkenylation protocols for the synthesis of substituted chromanes. In 2023, he joined the iCAT CDT programme at the University of Manchester (UK) and, in January 2024, started his first laboratory rotation in the Crisenza group. In this rotation he focused on the development of electrochemical strategies for the radical activation of carbon–nitrogen bonds. Following this a second rotation was based in the Bowen group which focused on mechanistic investigations of photocatalytic processes via EPR spectroscopy.

Outside of the lab, he enjoy reading and travelling to new places.
