Aitor completed his undergraduate studies in Spain at the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2020, followed by a MSc in Medicinal Chemistry at Cardiff University in 2021. In the two years previous to his PhD start, Aitor worked on the synthesis of peptide-drug conjugates as a FCT predoctoral fellow with Dr Maria João Matos and Professor Fernanda Borges at the University of Porto, and on the synthesis of new drug candidates as a medicinal chemist at the Medicines Discovery Institute of Cardiff University. His PhD project involves the development of new synthetic methodologies and their application to chemical biology, under the supervision of Prof. Igor Larrosa, Prof. Sam Butterworth and Dr Christine Schmidt. Outside the lab, he enjoys engaging in outdoor activities and explore nature, as well as doing and watching sports, having a background as a competitive swimmer.
