Marco Simonetti

Marco

Marco grew up in Italy near Como, where he completed his BSc and MSc degrees. He then moved to the UK, first to London and later to Manchester, where he carried out his PhD with Igor Larrosa. During this time, he developed ruthenium chemistry in the group, which has since continued to grow. After his PhD, Marco stayed in the Larrosa group as a postdoc before moving to Daniele Leonori’s group in Manchester. There, he expanded his research experience and introduced the use of nitroarenes as photoexcited oxidants. He then moved into industry, joining bp in Hull, where he worked on developing biofuels and bio-lubricants from bioderived feedstocks. Marco has since returned to academia, rejoining the Larrosa group to further strengthen his path towards an independent academic career.
