Building the Extension: Week 4

2 August: Walls climb higher

The first lintel. Well above head height now.

3 August: Old outer skin is removed

The outer skin of bricks is removed to make more space in the rooms.
Scaffolding appears. Old windows are boarded up.
The old internal brickwork is a bit rough. More scaffolding.

4 August: First floor joists installed

The remaining outer skin of bricks is removed (very noisy for those inside), and the first floor joists are put in.
Lots of old bricks were removed. Floor joists in place.
The kitchen wall will need some work. A skip from a-far.
The first floor. Splendid old brickwork revealed after 80 years.

5 August: First floor walls begin

The walls go above the first floor.
The side wall goes up Half a room, almost.

6 August: First floor walls rise some more

The walls climb higher, and more scaffolding appears.

7 August: Walls almost done

Despite some heavy rainstorms, the external walls are almost completed and the windows take shape.
