Supramolecular Chemistry in Membranes

The Webb group at the University of Manchester use molecular self-assembly to create materials that mimic biological membranes and improve our understanding of important biological processes.

Current research projects include:

Quantifying 'cooperativity' in binding to bilayers.
Understanding the role of 'lipid rafts' in cellular recognition.
Creating synthetic ion channels.
Cell targeting and the triggered release of bioactive compounds from liposomes.
Developing synthetic signal transduction devices for information transmission across bilayer membranes.
