Eureka BIO-Path project 2000-2003

I was engaged on the EUREKA BIO-Path project, coordinated by Lion Bioscience, Heidelberg, Germany. The goal of this project was to develop an information system that will provide improved access for the subject specialist to molecular genetic and biochemical information. This was intended to support information access needs throughout the drug development process in the pharmaceutical industry. The innovative aspect of the project was twofold, in that it involved linking subject literature to factual biological databases on the one hand, and, on the other, employing a combination of linguistic, statistical and bioinformatic techniques to identify and extract relevant domain-specific knowledge. My group's role in this project was to automatically extract terminology from domain literature and to identify and exploit other relevant information important for the building of domain specific ontologies.
