Speech Acoustics
Plosives and Affricates

The aim of this section is to familiarize you with the basic way in which
plosive and affricates sounds are produced and how that relates to the
acoustics of such sounds.
On successful completion of this topic you will be able to:
- Understand the basic acoustic properties of plosive and affricate sounds
- Be able to describe the acoustic cues that indicate the place of articulation for plosive sounds
- Be able to describe the acoustic cues that distinguish voiced from voiceless plosives and affricates
