Speech Acoustics
Approximants

The aim of this section is to familiarize you with the basic way in
which approximant sounds are produced and how that relates to the
acoustics of such sounds.
On successful completion of this topic you will be able to:
- Understand the basic acoustic properties of approximant sounds
- Be able to describe the acoustic cues that identify the different approximant sounds
- Understand why rate of formant transition is important in identification of approximants
