Scaffolds
An Ideal Scaffold:
- Act as a template for tissue growth in 3D
- Have an interconnected macroporous network for tissue ingrowth, vascularisation and nutrient delivery
- Bond to host tissue with limited scar tissue formation
- Influence the genes of the cells to enable efficient differentiation, proliferation and maintenance of phenotype
- Resorb at the same rate as tissue formation
- Be strong enough to withstand loading
- Be easily and cheaply produced to ISO9001/FDA standards
