Scaffolds

An Ideal Scaffold:

  • Act as a template for tissue growth in 3D
  • Have an interconnected macroporous network for tissue ingrowth, vascularisation and nutrient delivery
  • Bond to host tissue with limited scar tissue formation
  • Influence the genes of the cells to enable efficient differentiation, proliferation and maintenance of phenotype
  • Resorb at the same rate as tissue formation
  • Be strong enough to withstand loading
  • Be easily and cheaply produced to ISO9001/FDA standards
