1. Summary

In the second part of the lecture you saw how to:

  • create a simple web page, using a template to help you with the difficult structural tags
  • make changes to the text or tags of the page, saving them in the editor then viewing them in the browser
  • view the page remotely using a URL.

You now understand the basic web design process. Of course, what you have to do now is start thinking about how to use HTML files and tags to write your own pages. We will start this process in the next lecture.

2. What's coming in lecture 2

Lecture 2 will start with the very important concept of styles. There is some necessary pre-reading for lecture 2, which if not completed beforehand may make that lecture hard for you to understand. The reading is the page which introduces styles. If you don't want to follow that link immediately, it is clearly marked on the lesson 2 online index. The full URL is also on the lecture handout.

In lecture 2 we will also use text formatting tags to do more interesting things with text than we have done so far. We will also think about the concept of fonts (or typefaces) and colours. Between them these will start to show you how you can personalise your web page by giving it a "look" or "feel" which is both individual to you, and helpful to the visitor.

END OF LECTURE ONE.
