lecture 1: making changes

To start with, let's change some of the text on this web page. Follow the instructions on your handout marked "Slide K". Remember you will need to use the bottom bar or the Alt+Tab key to move between Notepad and the browser window. If you follow all the instructions accurately, you will have reattributed the "Used Car" quote.

However, it really was Woody Allen and not Marlon Brando (RIP) who said that, so let's change it back again. Try doing this without reading the instructions. If you manage it, you know how to edit a web page and check it in the browser. Well done!

Warning!

WARNING!: Never save a page from within a browser, but only ever from within Notepad. Very strange things can happen which can be frustrating even to experienced web designers. Basically the browser will start putting in code of its own. Though you might think this to be helpful, it isn't. NEVER, EVER, EVER save a web page from within Word: you may as well scrap it and start again.

This warning is repeated in the online teaching materials - but it is important.
