Treatments
for inflammatory
skin disease.

I work on the safety and effectiveness of treatments for chronic inflammatory skin disease — psoriasis, atopic eczema and the methods used to evaluate them.

01 — About

I am a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Dermatology and Pharmacoepidemiology at the University of Manchester and an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist with Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. I qualified in medicine in Manchester and completed clinical-academic training in dermatology in the North West of England, with a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and a PhD supported by an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship.

In 2024 I was awarded an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship for the MERMAID programme — Making Effectiveness Research better by meta-analysing Trial and Real World Evidence in Immune-Mediated inflammatory Diseases. The programme brings randomised trial data together with registry-based observational data to give patients and clinicians more useful evidence about which treatment to choose, and when.

I am Co-Section Editor for the Epidemiology section of the British Journal of Dermatology, Co-Deputy Chair of the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network and a Councillor of the International Psoriasis Council. I sit on NICE Technology Appraisal Committee D, the BAD Research Subcommittee, the steering committees of BADBIR, GRASS-UK and UKKCC, the European Dermato-Epidemiology Network steering committee, and the grant advisory panels of the British Skin Foundation and Eczema UK.
