Heparin releasing systems
Electric current is used to rapidly change the structural
arrangement of an electroerodible polyelectrolyte complex (heparin +
+vely charged polymer)
- Polymer matrix dissolves in proportion to the intensity of the electric current
- Current produces hydroxyl ions near cathode
- Increases local pH
- Disrupts ionic bonds of polymer
- Releases heparin from surface
- Alter pattern of current --> control release
