- Ulcerated atherosclerosis - thrombi form due to exposure of subendothelial elements and local turbulence
- Aneurysms - abnormal dilatations
- Myocardial infarctions provide sites of endothelial injury but necrotic tissue does not contract therefore adding stasis
- Varicose veins - abnormally dilated
