Alterations in normal blood flow

  • Ulcerated atherosclerosis - thrombi form due to exposure of subendothelial elements and local turbulence
  • Aneurysms - abnormal dilatations
  • Myocardial infarctions provide sites of endothelial injury but necrotic tissue does not contract therefore adding stasis
  • Varicose veins - abnormally dilated
