Injury to endothelium

  • Heart and arteries e.g. left ventricle at sites of myocardial infarction or heart attack
  • Ulcerated plaques in advanced atherosclerosis of the aorta and arteries, particularly coronary arteries
  • Cardiac chambers after injury to the endocardium:
    1. Cardiac surgery
    2. Infections of the myocardium
    3. Immunologic myocardial reactions
  • Inflammatory valve disease and prosthetic valves
