Platelet adhesion
Site of vessel injury:
- Platelet glycoprotein Ib (GP Ib) and exposed connective tissue e.g. collagen
- Requires plasma von Willebrand factor (vWF) as an essential cofactor
Artifical surfaces:
- Via above mechanism
- GP IIb/IIIa
- Receptor for fibrinogen, vWF, fibronectin, vitronectin
