About me

I started working as an EFL teacher when one of the students who I was teaching on a communications course was having difficulties coping with his mainstream course, this was back in 1978. I then picked up a job with the Berlitz School of English in Manchester in the summer of 1979 and ended up working in Libya for a month on 1980. In the autumn of that year I began my DTEFLA course, which I finished in 1981 and did a variety of jobs until I went overseas to Mongolia and then to Azerbaijan, coming back in 1984 to do my MEd at Manchester University which I joined as a member of staff in 1985. Since then I have done a lot of things, but most recently I was awarded my EdD.

I work in the Language Teacher Education Group in the School of Education at the University of Manchester where I am involved in courses and research connected to language education and and the role of technology/ ICT.
