Flor joined the School of Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science in October 2006. Before that she was working at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili as a Ramon y Cajal researcher, studying the properties of surfactants and self-assembled systems, using molecular simulations to understand the formation of hybrid materials and design functional materials with specific active groups in determined locations. Her interest in self-assembling systems started when she joined the Gubbins' Research Group at NCSU to study the formation of MCM-41 type materials, which are periodically ordered mesoporous materials that use surfactant self assemblies as structure directing agents. Her interest in porous materials started during her PhD, where she worked with Professor Alan L. Myers and Professor Ray J. Gorte at the University of Pennsylvania, studying non-ideal behavior of adsorbed mixtures in zeolites.
