this is the end of the Web Design Core.

Please remember that in week 7 your option teaching begins. If you are taking the Advanced Web Techniques option you can carry on following these virtual lectures: here is a link to lecture 7 although as ever you should ensure you read the rest of the online teaching materials for this lecture and take the self-test to check your progress. If you are taking another ACOM option, it's back to "real" lectures I'm afraid. Check the ACOM timetable to see when and where your option lectures are taking place.

There is - usually - a lecture in week 11 for the Web Design Core which in semester 1 2004-5 will take place on Thursday 5th May at 12:00 in RSLT 12. This is an optional lecture and you have the chance to influence the content of this lecture. If there are subjects you would like covered in more detail, or if you have any suggestions for relevant topics which I did not cover, a thread will be started on the bulletin board to which you can contribute your ideas. In the past this lecture has covered:

  • what to do if you get asked to design a web site on behalf of a real client
  • how advanced web technologies like ASP, SQL or PHP can be integrated with HTML
  • what other sources of help are available once this course has finished (such as Usenet newsgroups)
  • what the WWW might look like in five years' time...

...although these are all just suggestions, and frankly we can use the hour to talk about anything you like. There is no virtual equivalent to this lecture due to its flexibility. I stress again that this is an optional lecture, although I do recommend that you attend if you are at all interested in continuing with web design after the end of this course (even if just on an "amateur" basis).

Other than that - that's it - I hope you enjoyed the Web Design Core and that your option is equally helpful. Don't forget your course work!
