Supramolecular Chemistry in Membranes

PhD funding available (click here to find out more). Deadline 19th January 2024.

The Webb group at the University of Manchester use molecular self-assembly to create materials that mimic biological membranes and improve our understanding of important biological processes. Our research can be divided into four themes. Move mouse over the images below and click for more information.

Current research projects include:

• Quantifying 'cooperativity' in binding to bilayers.
• Understanding the role of 'lipid rafts' in cellular recognition.
• Creating synthetic ion channels.
• Cell targeting and the triggered release of bioactive compounds from liposomes.
• Developing synthetic signal transduction devices for information transmission across bilayer membranes.
