Current activities and work

·          Developing a semi-empirical basis extending the generality of equations for calculating heat transfer to fluids at supercritical pressure

·          Contributing to the IAEA, Coordinated Research Programme (CRP) on heat transfer behaviour and thermo-hydraulics code testing for supercritical water cooled reactors

·          Planning and organising an ‘International Specialists Meeting on Heat Transfer to Fluids at Supercritical Pressure’, in cooperation with the IAEA.

·          Contributing to a book on ‘Supercritical pressure fluids in power engineering applications: Technical issues’ to be published by ASME.

·          Collaboration with researchers at other universities on CFD work and experimental work on heat transfer to fluids at supercritical pressure (Dr. Shuisheng He, University of Aberdeen, UK, Prof.  Walter Ambrosini, University of Pisa, Italy and Prof. Pei-Xue Jiang, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China).

·          Delivering ‘in house’ Training Seminars on Mixed Convection Heat Transfer for industrial and research organisations

·          Peer Review work for the UK nuclear industry

·          Biographical research on the Life and Work at Osborne Reynolds

·          Preparation of material for an illustrated public lecture for the Royal Society Local Heroes Celebration on ‘Order in Turbulent Motion - Contributions of the Manchester Engineer/Scientist, Osborne Reynolds’.

·          Preparation of a thematic display and DVD presentation on pioneering developments in Engineering Science for the Manchester Histories Festival
