Flying Scotsman

The locomotive Flying Scotsman has set many records:

On 1st May 1928 - hauled the first non-stop train from Kings Cross, London to Edinburgh (392.7 miles). This was the longest non-stop run in the world.

On 30th November 1934 - first authenticated world speed record of 100 mph for steam traction.

On 8th April 1989 - world record non-stop run for steam traction of 422 miles in New South Wales, Australia. This record has never been beaten.

 
 

  Mallard

On 3rd July 1938, the streamlined locomotive Mallard set a new world speed record for steam traction of 126 mph. This record has never been beaten.

 Highest railway summit

The world's highest railway summit is at La Cima, Peru, on the Moracocha branch of the Peru Central Railway. It is at 15,806 ft or 4818 metres high.
