Haemocompatibility and thrombogenicity

Heparin releasing systems

There are 5 methods whereby heparin is released:

  1. Heparin is ionically bound either directly to a +vely charged polymer substrate or
  2. a +vely charged gel that is then coated on the polymer surface
  3. Heparin-dispersed polymers (diffusion release mechanism)
  4. Heparin is loaded into a thermosensitive hydrogel-grafted surface at low temperatures
  5. A complex of heparin and +vely charged polymer subjected to electric current to induce heparin release
