Project: Fumarate Accumulation in Arabidopsis thaliana.

Photosynthesis is increasingly being recognised as a limting factor in the productivity of crop plants.  Under many environmental conditions, the ability of plants to export or assimilate fixed carbon becomes limited for photosynthesis, leading to feed-back inhibition and down regulation of CO2 fixaiton.  In this project, joint with Caroline Bowsher, Roy Goodacre and Jean Marc Schwartz, we are exploring the possibility of enhancing transient stores of carbon in the leaf, focussing on fumaric acid as a substrate for storage.
