Notes for this site

If you have not looked at this site before, please read these introductory notes which relate to the site itself (rather than Hebden Bridge).

This site does serve as an introduction to the town of Hebden Bridge, but that is not its primary purpose. It is, in fact, a teaching aid developed as part of the Web Design and Technology course offered at the University of Leeds by the ACOM team. For ACOM's own web site, click here.

The course aims to teach students how to write HTML, the basic "language" of the World Wide Web. It is part of a much larger site which you can access by clicking here. Other than these notes, there will be no other indication on the "HX7" subsite that it is anything other than what it claims to be (a guide to the town). However, the intention is that students view the source code of the pages which make up the site - the files contain many comments and notes about how each page is put together. The main teaching materials also have many links and screen shots from this site.To view the source code of this page, click anywhere using the right-hand mouse button and select "View Source" from the menu which appears.

If you have stumbled across this site while looking for information on Hebden Bridge, but are now thinking you'd quite like to read a bit about web design, feel free.... there are no restrictions on access to the main teaching materials. But please read the main site's introductory guide before diving in.

Do note that because this site is a teaching aid, parts of it may seem unsophisticated! It contains code and design that ranges from the extremely basic to the quite complex, and may sometimes present things in ways that seem odd, or less attractive than they might be. This is because the intention is more to demonstrate certain HTML techniques: and at times, to show why they are best not used.
