Ashdown Forest is not really a forest at all - it is a sandy heathland raised above the Sussex Weald, between the towns of Crowborough, Uckfield and East Grinstead. The woods and streams around the village of Hartfield were the inspiration for Five Hundred Acre Wood, home of Winnie the Pooh - A.A.Milne lived here.
