This is your Personal Web Home Page!

Version 1.0

Note that further details about personal Web pages can be found at http://www.umist.ac.uk/isd/pwp/default.htm

The page you can see now is your new personal Web home page and was generated automatically the first time you clicked on the "My Web Page" icon on the desktop in a PC Centre or Departmental PC Cluster.  It is now live on the web.  The page has also opened up in a Web page editor called FrontPage Express so that you can change the content to your own.  Once you have revised the document, save it. You can return and edit it again at any time via the same icon.

This is your own personal web page and you may edit it as you wish or replace it with another as long as the content is in accordance with the "Guidelines for personal Web pages" which can be viewed at http://www.umist.ac.uk/isd/pwp/glpersweb.htm.

Important - as soon as this page was generated it became live and readable by others over the Internet, therefore any changes you make to this page must be in accordance with the Guidelines.  If you do not wish to have a personal Web page you should find and delete the file p:\public_html\default.htm  from your Home Directory (p: drive). Do not attempt to delete the folder p:\public_html\

Editing your web page

The easiest way to edit your web page is by clicking on the My Web Page icon - this will open the page in FrontPage Express.  Alternatively, you can use any available text or web page editor - start the editor then find the page p:\public_html\default.htm.  If you prefer you can simply replace the page with another and if you wish to add more pages simply place them in  p:\public_html\ and make links between pages - again each page must be in accordance with the guidelines.

Notes

  1. Any files or web pages that you place in p:\public_html\ can potentially be accessed by anyone using a web browser.
  2. The system does not support CGI/server side programs.

Tutorials on writing web pages are available on the ISD Web site in http://www.umist.ac.uk/isd/training/ -see the "Netskills" and "Authoring on the Web" sections.
