I am Arash Pourakaberian, a PhD student in the IMPRES research group at the University of Manchester. I hold BSc and MSc degrees in petroleum engineering from Sharif University of Technology, with a strong focus on experimental, numerical, and computational modelling.

During my undergraduate studies, I developed a statistical model to predict acid-induced sludge formation under a range of operational conditions, supported by extensive laboratory experiments. My MSc research further strengthened my computational expertise through modelling electrokinetic transport in thin brine films confined between charged oil and rock surfaces, with the aim of understanding parameter effects in low-salinity waterflooding.

Prior to joining IMPRES, I translated my academic experience into industry by co-founding a company. My work there included developing an acidising laboratory, providing consultancy to improve acidising job quality, synthesising and formulating oilfield chemicals, and developing an advanced well stimulation design and evaluation software, StimArt.

Research Interests

As a subsurface energy engineer, my research centers on the laboratory and modeling studies of complex geochemical reactions and transport in porous media focusing on natural hydrogen. I aim to enhance our understanding of subsurface energy storage and production processes, contributing to a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
