I am a Professor of Social Statistics & Demography and Head of Department at the
Social Statistics Department,
School of Social Sciences,
University of Manchester. I am also a member of the Advisory Board of the
Cathie Marsh Institute (CMI), Visiting Scholar at the
Max Planck Institute for Demography Research, associate of the
ESRC Research Centre for Population Change, University of Southampton, and Adjunct Associate Professor at
Asian Demographic Research Institute, University of Shanghai.
In my research I concentrate on developing statistical methods for modelling and forecasting complex social processes, with a particular focus on migration and mobility, and combining various sources of data. I also have a general interest in time series analysis and forecasting, hierarchical models, Bayesian computational methods, micro-econometrics, opinion polls and ageing. I have also been involved in research related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
