Platelet aggregation
- Release of dense granule ADP
- Formation of thrombin
- Generation of thromboxane A2
Platelet stimulation causes activation of the GPIIb/IIIa receptors
Bind plasma proteins e.g fibrinogen causing bridging together
Thrombin binds platelets and causes:
- Platelet activation
- Produce more thrombin
- Stimulate ADP release and thromboxane A2
- Stimulate formation of fibrin which stabilises the thrombus
