Automorphic Lie Algebras and the Problem of Reductions of Integrable Equations

In this talk I will focus on the reduction problem, one of the most important and challenging problems in the theory of integrable systems. In particular, I will show how this is related to a class of infinite dimensional Lie algebras, which has applications to the theory of integrable equations. The construction of these algebras is very similar to the one for automorphic functions and this motivates the name automorphic Lie algebras.
