Local Geometry of the Momentum Map

James Montaldi (UMIST)

j.montaldi@umist.ac.uk

This is an introductory and informal talk on the momentum map and some of its geometry. The first half will describe what this map is and give some (standard) examples, and describe the famous convexity results. Towards the end I hope to have time to say something about some joint work with Mark Roberts (Surrey) on the stratification of the momentum map.
