I will describe some recent work on the construction of su(2) monopoles with cyclic symmetry via algebro-geometric methods. The symmetry leads to various relations between spectral curves and their covers and connections between integrable systems. A transcendental constraint on the curve is equivalent to a problem solved by Ramanujan.
