The notion of a projective connection (with various nuances in definition) appears in various areas of differential geometry and mathematical physics. I shall give a survey of various definitions of projective connections and related concepts from a more modern viewpoint. I also hope to discuss a recently discovered link of these notions with constructions from Batalin-Vilkovisky geometry, in particular the algebra of densities.
