T.Bridgeland@sheffield.ac.uk I'll begin by talking in general terms about derived categories of coherent sheaves on projective varieties and describing some of the work that has been done on them in the last twenty years. I'll try to make it as concrete as possible. I'll then try to say something about my recent work on spaces of stability conditions.
