In this talk I shall speak about an addition law on the g-th symmetric power of an hyperelliptic curve of genus g with the remarkable property that the classical Jacobi transformation is a homomorphism w.r.t. the standard addition on the Jacobian of the curve. This gives the solution of a long-standing classical problem.
