drav@math.rochester.edu I first stated the telescope conjecture in 1977 and thought I had a disproof of it in the early '90s. The disproof has since fallen through. Details can be found in #58 on my publications list.
In this talk I will review the conjecture, describe why it is likely to be false, and pose a problem about relating it to the vanishing curve of the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence.
