Serial No. 75

With Hit Recording Credits

The Dumble is considered the crown jewel of amplifiers.
There are perhaps no more than 170 of them in existence ... And they seldom change hands.

Here is a Dumble "Overdrive Special" Combo amp, serial #75, Built in 1981, 100/50 watt changeable.

Dumble amps, though always good, vary from one to the next. This amp was custom built for Steve Farris, guitarist of the group Mr. Mister. It was sonically tailored by Alex/Howard Dumble (over a period of time) to suit Farris' demands. The amp has amazing harmonic sustain in overdrive, and fat ringing bell-like tone in clean mode, very alive. It is a truly a great one and in great condition. It was also the first to be made with cream colored tolex.

Because of this Dumble, Alex/Howard Dumble began to make all of the Overdrive Specials with a separate volume control for the overdrive.

An example of this amp's wonderful recording quality is on the Mr. Mister album, "Welcome to the Real World." It was used on every hit song, including the #1 hits - "Broken Wings" and "Kyrie," and the single - "Is It Love." The solo on "Is It Love" was transcribed and featured in the May 1986 issue of Guitarist magazine (the English equivalent to Guitar Player). The Dumble was part of the sound of that solo. The amp was used on many recordings in the 80's, Barry Gibb to Kenny Loggins to Tori Amos, but the Mr. Mister stuff always comes to mind.

This Dumble was the 1st to be made in cream colored tolex
