Mammogram Analysis (2011)
A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast collected during routine screening in the hope that by detecting cancers in their early stages (where they can be more easily treated) we might reduce cancer related deaths.
Detecting early stage cancer is, however, a very challenging problem and requires a skilled radiologist with many years of experience. The problem is that the telltale signs of early stage cancers in a mammogram can be very subtle. Our aim is to develop new ways to process the image to pick up these subtle indicators and therefore act as a second radiologist to prompt the human radiologist and increase detection rates.
