Mitosis

  • In S Phase chromosomes are duplicated
  • The 2 copies however remain tightly bound as sister chromatids
  • Bound by cohesins
  • Visible signs of mitosis are a result of chromosome condensation (50x shorter)
  • Condensins are responsible for condensation
  • Replicated chromosomes must be separated, segregation is enabled by the mitotic spindle
