  • Lecturer, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Manchester, UK
  • Experience and Interests

Dr Costen has been working in the field of telecommunication and has been interested in the development of an algorithm for direction of arrival estimation which estimate parameters of closely spaced multiple signals in the domains of radar and sonar. Tracking proceeds with high speed and resolution so the sensor array system may follow rapid changes of the environment in real time. One part of the algorithm can substitute for Gram-Schmidt orthogonalisation with a reduction in computational load. To do this research, she used Unix workstations on SUN, DEC, HP machines and wrote programs/reports in LaTeX, Fortran, awk, sed, shell-script.

    Current Research Interest

  • Ultra-WideBand system
  • Computation in Electromagnetics
  • All related to the finite differential time domain methods(FDTD)

    Physical location

My office is in the building 1 called Sackville Street building (main building in UMIST) in the detailed map. When you enter the building from Sackville street, turn left and walk to find a lift. Lift takes you to E-floor. The room E3 is easily found when you walk to the left. The internal call is 64717.
