Ximena obtained her degree in Biochemistry in 2000 and completed a PhD in Biological Sciences in 2006, both from the University of Concepción in Chile. She joined the Amaya lab in 2006 as a research associate at the Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute and relocated to the University of Manchester with the lab in 2006.

Ximena is currently working on the role of IP3 signalling during embryonic wound healing and on the development of primitive myeloid cells.

Ximena & Roberto had their first child, Alfonsina Paredes, in September 2007.
