BA and MMath (Part III Mathematics) in mathematics at the University of Cambridge.
PhD in mechanical engineering at the University of Surrey.

Employment.
1986 - 1991: research scientist for CEGB/National Power
1995 - 1999: post-doctoral research associate at UMIST
2000 - present: lecturer in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester
