Congratulations and good luck to Dr Gavin Noble, who has completed his PhD and moved to the University of Notre Dame in the US to work with Assistant Prof. Basar Bilgiçer.

New arrivals

Welcome to Faye Craven, formerly of Newcastle University, and Rebecca Booth, formerly of Leeds University, who have started their PhD research in the group. Welcome also to Dr Patrick King, who joins as a PDRA after completing his PhD with Prof. Dek Woolfson in the University of Bristol. Faye is based in the MIB labs, whilst Rebecca joins Sarah and Vincent in our new synthetic lab in the Chemistry Building. Congratulations to Andrew who won the AstraZeneca Poster Prize at the School of Chemistry welcome talks.

New arrivals

Welcome to Dr Vincent Diemer (who joins us from Strasbourg) and Dr Sarah Pike (who joins us from Edinburgh). Along with Rob Brown, they are working on a joint project with Prof. Jonathan Clayden, and welcome to Tom Coxon who joins as part of the NowNano DTC. Congratulations to Gavin on his recent wedding to Sarah in sunny St Helens. Congratulations also to James and Becky on the birth of their baby daughter Grace, and to Felicity and Dom on the birth of their baby daughter Ruth.

MIB 5-a-side football.

This year, in conjunction with the Gardiner group we were able to field two "UMIST Again" teams (youth and veteran teams). Alas the youth team was knocked out on penalties in the group stage, with the veterans being knocked out in the semi-final by the eventual champions.
