Our synthetic chemistry lab bay in the MIB.
PhD positions available in organic/supramolecular chemistry. Contact Dr Webb for more information.
The Webb group is part of the School of Chemistry and is based in the state-of-the-art Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre at the University of Manchester.
The School of Chemistry is one of the largest research schools in the UK and the premier institution for chemistry in the North-West; with ~650 students it has one of the largest undergraduate populations in the UK. The 60 academic staff and ~200 postgraduates of the School enjoy one of the UK's largest research grant portfolios, in addition to world-class facilities, including a full range of analytical instrumentation.
Our analysis lab bay in the MIB.
A key part of the scientific strategy of the University of Manchester was the interfaculty initiative that gave birth to the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (MIB), a £38M research centre completed in 2006.
The MIB fosters a barrier-less
scientific culture between its 54 research groups, allowing expertise and techniques
within to be focused on important scientific problems. Our research group has been based
in purpose-built chemistry labs in the MIB since July 2006; our laboratories contain
optical/epi-fluorescence microscopy with hot stage, fluorescence spectroscopy, UV-visible
spectrophotometry, induction heating, and a fully-equipped synthesis lab. Other shared
facilities available within the MIB include NMR spectrometry, the latest mass
spectrometers and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
